Yongsong is Professor of Earth, Environmental, and Planetary Science at Brown University. His research focuses on the development and application of lipid biomarkers as proxies for studying past climate change. One ongoing project uses arctic Alaskan lakes as paleoclimate, paleoecological, and permafrost dynamic archives. As a senior fellow at the Collegium, he organized an interdisciplinary workshop on aspects of chemistry, biology, ecology, phycology, and genomics related to long-chain alkenones.
