For the past year, the United States has been undergoing rapid transformation. The upheavals in American politics and society have had international repercussions and directly affect Switzerland as well. The Literaturhaus invites authors and scholars to reflect together and engage in conversation about these current developments — and to situate them within a broader context: How has literature responded to the changes of recent years? What narratives are emerging about social cohesion and about the relationship between the individual and society? Which historical mechanisms can be traced as underlying today’s developments? What has become of the once grand promise of freedom in the United States? And what significance do America and its values hold for Europe and Switzerland today?
The guests include American and Swiss authors who have long engaged with the United States in their work.
