During his early-career fellowship at the Collegium Helveticum, Celestin Mutuyimana worked on a project that emphasized the importance of integrating the voices of trauma survivors and cultural diversity into the diagnosis and treatment of mental disorders. By amplifying survivors' experiences, his project aimed to bridge these gaps, giving them a platform to share their suffering and propose culturally relevant healing interventions. His work has now culminated in a film, which will be launched online on February 26.
The film features trauma survivors, clinicians, and traditional healers from Rwanda, Kenya, Afghanistan, and Ukraine to explore post-traumatic stress and healing across cultures. It underscores that true recovery is only possible by listening to survivors' lived experiences. Their voices hold both recognized and untapped knowledge, highlighting the critical need for their active participation in the healing process.
